A room with a view! That's what a campervan and a tiny house can have in common. Do you also dream of opening your doors and looking out on a lake, the edge of a forest or a large meadow? Which formula suits you best? What are their differences? Here's an overview tiny house vs campervan.

Motorhome vs tiny house
Why a tiny house is better
- It feels like a (t)home. For many who choose to follow the tiny house path, this kind of structure looks more like what you might think a house might look like, only smaller. It is a matter of aesthetics. For some, this is important. A tiny house is sturdier, better built, more spacious and more permanent. That can make all the difference. You don't feel like you're on an endless camping trip.
- Tiny houses are better able at weather influences. They are generally better insulated and winterised than campers because they are custom-built from the ground up. Owners can choose what kind of insulation and heating and cooling suits them and their local climate. Campers are generally not built for winter habitation.
- Tiny houses are grossly healthier built than campers. Your tiny house is mostly made of non-toxic materials. For people with chemical sensitivities (allergies) or those who care about health, this can make a difference. The many hours of the day spent in it, including sleeping, can be decisive. This is almost impossible in a mass-produced RV.
- Customisation, customisation. A tiny house is not a mass-produced product. Tiny houses come in all shapes, sizes, structures and aesthetics. There are modernist gems, Japanese-inspired tea houses, gypsy-style caravans, even those with a bit of Indian flair or gothic charm. Lots of Tiny Wonders to be spotted :-).
- In a tiny house you have more space. They are higher and more functional equipped to stay in. The motorhome is a vehicle, which is aerodynamically designed to reduce consumption. That extra space translates into a lot more conveniences.
Why motorhomes and recreational vehicles are better
- Motorhomes are more mobile. Motorhomes are made to be moved. They are built with lightweight materials and in an aerodynamic shape, while tiny houses are much, much heavier and less frequently moved. For those who want to travel around the world, only an RV is the option.
- Building regulations and insurance: legal and administrative matters. In many places, tiny houses occupy a bit of a grey area. But there are places where the rules allow you to legally live in a tiny house. You do need to do your research and find creative solutions. Campers are pretty straightforward in terms of taking out insurance for one.
- A vintage camper is much cheaper To buy as a refurbisher. For those on a super tight budget, buying a used, older camper to refurbish might be the best choice.
- Campers are good at hiding. They allow themselves to be more easily camouflage in certain environments. Small houses are made to be distinctive, while campers can fit in well, especially if they are of the modified camper type. Handy when parking around, under the radar.
